Microneedling Therapy

Microneedling Therapy of the Nail Bed

Microneedling Nail bed therapy involves treatment of the nail plates that have
stopped growing  as a result of injury, disease or other causes of changes within
the nail bed condition. This therapy allows the nail bed to regenerate and
rebuild itself.

The procedure is carried out in a FOOT HEALTH PRACTICE in
sterile conditions and by using sterile tools.

What is nail bed microneedling?

It is a procedure that is designed to stimulate the nail bed and stimulate the growth of the nail plate. It is characterized by making a series of micro injuries (shallow enough that the skin does not respond with scarring, but deep enough to stimulate the skin to repair itself). Thanks to them, tissues begin to regenerate intensively. The natural synthesis of collagen also increases.

Mechanical stimulation is aimed at "reviving" the tissue, stimulating nail growth, blood supply and oxygenation of the nail bed so that it resumes its proper work and performs its functions.

Stimulation of self-regeneration is a signal to start the reconstruction process and increased production of elastin and collagen. Through the created channels, we can introduce active substances, e.g. hyaluronic acid or collagen.

Microneedling therapy is not a method that brings immediate results!!

The results are often visible only after a series of 3-6 treatments, which, depending on the problem, skin condition and individual predispositions of the patient.

For the best, visible results, it should be  repeated every 3-12 week

When is microneedling of nail bed  is needed?

Indications for nail bed microneedling include all diseases and conditions that require intensive nutrition and regeneration of the nail bed.

Microneedling therapy is performed for:

  • onycholysis (detachment of the nail plate from the nail bed)

  • separation and chipping of the nail plate,

  • excessive brittleness of the nail plate,

  • stopping the growth of the nail plate,

  • subungual haematoma,

  • systemic disorders that result in deterioration of the nail plate.

  • Also as a treatment that supports the growth of the nail plate after fingertip surgery.   It can be carried out once the wound has healed.

What does nail bed microneedling treatment involve?

Before proceeding with the nail bed microneedling procedure, the patient should have a consultation with a foot care practitioner.

The treatment is carried out by a foot practitioner. To begin with, it is necessary to prepare and grind the nail plate. Then, a series of micro-punctures are made using a special device. It is also possible to administer a nutrient (e.g. with collagen) directly to the tissues that have been punctured.

Microneedling therapy of the nail bed is safe and carried out under sterile conditions. Minor side effects (m.in. redness or swelling) may occur after the procedure. You can minimize the risk of their occurrence by strictly following the foot practitioner’s recommendations.

Effects of nail bed microneedling therapy

• oxygenation and blood supply to the nail bed occurs,

• the nail bed is well supplied with blood

• the nail bed performs its functions better,

• Nail growth is stimulated.

However, it should be remembered that the effects of microneedling therapy performed by trained foot health practitioner do not appear immediately after the procedure.  They can be observed after 3-6 sessions, which are performed no more than once a month.

The microneedling therapy plan at the FOOT HEALTH PRACTICE in Bridgend is prepared individually for each patient.

After the nail bed microneedling procedure, special care should be taken of the area that has been subjected to it.     It may be more sensitive to mechanical irritation, pressure and substances present in skin care products.  A foot care practitioner will indicate which product should be used after microneedling therapy to support tissue regeneration and prepare them for the next micro puncture session.

MICROPOINT THERAPY OF THE NAIL BED

Micro- point therapy is a second method of nail bed stimulation and regeneration treatment and it works on the basis of a reflex arch. The treatment is based on trans epidermal stimulation, the impulse is sent through neural pathways to the brain, while the brain sends a signal in return to the treated area about the need for its regeneration/remodelling.

Micro- point techniques involve micro puncture of the skin with a point pen / stimulation with a burr bit in the right places and at the right angle.

Vibrations and information that propagate through the tissues trigger regenerative processes in the skin.
